Roman
material comprised: imbrex and tegula (roof tile) and brick (used for various
building purposes). From [2111] there
was a probable tessera, which would have been used in a tessellated floor. Also from [2111] were two bricks, one with a
sheep hoof print, and another with hobnail boot imprints. [2113] yielded a sandstone flag roof tile.
MEDIEVAL
There were
a variety of forms of Medieval material. The early form of flanged roofing tile, dating to the 12th - early
13th century was found in [2013]. Two
types of roof ridge tile were present: a plain ridge, and several kinds of
crested ridge - ranging from large to small crested. Peg tile was also present, one near complete and with dog paw
imprints. A single, small fragment of
plain glazed floor tile was found in [2006].
