YORYM
1992.9 - TOWER 9, York
S Garside-Neville
Roman
material comprised the bulk of this sample.
Roman forms included tegula and imbrex (roof tile), brick (used for a
number of building purposes), and box flue (used in the hypocaust heating
system). Much of this material was
abraded or had traces of mortar on all surfaces, including broken edges which
probably indicates reuse. There were
also samples of mortar and Opus Signinum.
There were
very few examples of Medieval material in this sample. [2008] yielded a piece
of Peg tile. [2017] also probably had a
fragment of Peg tile.
This
comprised a fragment of Slate from [1005]
