YORYM 1995.433 - 2 GRAPE LANE, YORK
Ceramic Building Materials
S Garside-Neville
The
medieval material in this sample consists of plain roofing material, which in
York will probably have been peg tile.
There are also examples of medieval brick.
In 1006
there is a brick which has sharply moulded edges, and has a frog (indent in the
centre). It is very likely that is post
medieval in date. 1010 has a brick with
measurements and form that are not typically medieval, and has been dated to
the 16th century or later.
There is a
fragment of worked limestone form 1006.
There are fragments of white painted plaster from 1009 and 1011 which
may be medieval.
