YORYM 1995.55 – TADCASTER
ROAD, YORK
S Garside-Neville
The Roman material from this site is
much abraded. Roofing material is
present in the normal Roman forms of tegula and imbrex. However, two fragments from 8005 are very
thick, indicating a large product. The
fabric appears to be Roman. These are
tentatively identified as imbrex, but may be parts of some sort of piping. There is a possible fragment of Box flue
from 7005 which appears to have finger smoothing, and is of the correct
thickness and shows the type of moulding marks associated with flue tile.
The measurements of the brick from
context 7005 indicate a probable medieval date. The fragment of brick from 8003 appears to have a medieval
fabric.
