Ceramic Building Materials

S Garside Neville

This small sample consists of  brick and plain tile.  The brick has a typical Hull fabric (purple in colour, with silty bands).  As there are no complete measurements it is difficult to be certain that the brick is medieval, though the fabric is not heavily refined, and would suggest a medieval date.  The plain tile is roof tile, which could be either peg tile or nib tile.  As this is a Hull sample, the latter is more likely.

Further work on this sample is not necessary, but it should be retained for comparative purposes.
