IW 96 – SELBY, NORTH YORKSHIRE
S Garside-Neville
The medieval material consists of roof tile. Peg tile is present, of the normal type for this area, having a
central square/diamond shaped peg hole positioned to the top edge of the tile.
This material consisted of brick.
Varying in sizes, most of the brick had fine or medium sanding, and was
probably slop moulded (where the mould was rinsed out with water before each
brick was made. One brick has what
appears to be the impression of a worm on its bottom surface (context
5040). Another brick had a covering of
pink plaster or paint (context 5056).
None of the bricks have medieval features or a combination of
measurements that would point to bricks of this date.
